Pavel Batov was a Soviet general who acted as a representative of Zinoviev to various Communist movements beginning after the First Russian Civil War and through to the War of Ideologies. After the Red Army coup against Premier Khrushchev, he served as the last People's Commisar for Defense under Marshal Zhukov. Following the outbreak of the Second Russian Civil War, he served with distinction and later helped found the Workers' Reform Party in the Russian SFSR, becoming its first General Secretary.
